The weather is starting to warm up and most of our winter visitors have gone back to cooler climates.
Did you ever notice how many of our winter visitors become involved in service at Mount Olive while they're here? Many are involved in Bible studies, men's fellowship, woodworking, music groups, quilting, prayer shawl group, Stephen Ministry, working at the White Burro sale, WOLCW, worship assistants, greeters and ushers, making and serving food, and the list goes on. I think part of the reason for this is that serving God has just become a way of life for them and they don't take a "vacation" from serving. They have learned the secret that when you share your time, talents and resources for the work of God that you receive blessings.
We are the hands and feet of Jesus here on earth and He's counting on us to share His love by serving others. We are each given time and talents and if we are willing to use them, God will equip us with what we need to accomplish His purposes.
Most of us who were called to be a Stephen Minister began our training with reservations about our abilities but with the training, prayers and God's help we have 20 people who are now serving God in this way. We want to share God's love by being present when people are going through the "valleys" of their life. We are here to serve you and our ministry is available not only to members of Mount Olive but to our entire community.
If you or someone you know might benefit from someone walking alongside them, we encourage you to take that first step and contact Pastor Craig, one of the leaders listed below or any of the Stephen Ministers in our congregation who wear the blue name badges. Then one of our referral persons will meet one on one and thoroughly explain Stephen Ministry to the potential care receiver and they can decide whether they think they would like to have a Stephen Minister assigned to them.
Having a Stephen Minister is not a sign of weakness but rather it's like giving yourself a gift! Finally, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Galatians 6: 9-10
