Mount Olive Lutheran Music Ministry

We want you to come join us.

There are ways we already use to help people follow a score, and we even have members who need a strong voice next to them in order to know what to sing.

October is Try Out A Music Ministry Month......unofficially just because I made it that. So, think about it. We are hoping to get some new music that will lift your spirits and provide a more meaningful worship experience.

If you know any instrumentalists who might be interested in joining us on a number or special solo, please ask them. Get out there and beat some bushes. We are one of a very few churches in town that still has a choir..and I think the only one with a year round music ensemble and choir.

Help us find new talent. We are looking at a one-night-fits-all rehearsal schedule on Wednesday and hope that might interest more people as well. All is well musically at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Bryant Christenson (Retired), B.A., M.M. Piano, Vocal, Composition: Active ASPT Certified Piano Tuner: Active Lake Havasu City, AZ 928-412-3871

Praise Band

We are looking for volunteer Christian musicians and vocalists for our Contemporary Praise Band. The Praise Band plays weekly at 10 am Sunday morning service (9am in the summer). We are looking for people who love the Lord and want to serve by using their gifts as instrumentalists and vocalists.

He has worked, performed and/or toured with several major name musicians and bands including Rose Royce, Johnny Otis, Shuggie Otis, and Mandrill as well as a host of others. Since Kevin moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ., in 2012, he joined Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and assisted in creating and forming a contemporary service and Praise Band naming them "The Echoes of Light". Kevin continues to serve at Mt. Olive Lutheran church as an active member and musician.

Curt Schmaltz

Curt Schmaltz, was born in Detroit, Michigan (the Arsenal of Democracy) during the WWII war years.  He was blessed to have parents who valued Christian education, sending him to Lutheran elementary school and high school.   Curt graduated from Detroit Lutheran High School in 1958.    Curt earned a BS in Chemical Engineering from Wayne State University (where he met his wife Amy), and earned a Masters in Business Administration from Texas A&M.

Curt’s expertise was in management and he held many responsible executive positions with major corporations managing their plastics businesses including General Electric, Celanese, Borg Warner, eventually attaining the position of President and CEO of a subsidiary of Daicel Chemicals.   His work involved a lot of travel in the USA, Europe, Japan, and Singapore.   Fortunately for Curt, his patient wife Amy (aka Mimi) also enjoyed moving about the country as Curt’s career included many corporate transfers to MD, TX, NJ, NC, WV, MA, NJ, KS, and finally back to Michigan to start up a new company, EcoSynthetix (an environmentally friendly specialty chemical company).     Curt was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Society of Plastics Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers,  the American Marketing Society and was a registered professional engineer (Texas).

Curt and Amy are blessed with two children, James who lives in Hoover, AL with his wife Melissa, and Laurie who recently moved to Lake Havasu.   Amy and Curt have one Grandson, Jarin, who  has blessed them with a Great Grand Daughter, Elisabeth.  They live in the Charlotte, NC area.

Curt enjoys playing the keyboard with the Mount Olive Church Praise Band, traveling, reading, and eating out with friends and family.

Janice Dewey

I have lived in Havasu for 47, have 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 3 great granchildren. I love music and play the bells, and sing in three groups. I have had my beauty salon for over 45 years. I'm still working and love to cook and sew. I have belonged as a member of Mount Olive Church and love my work in the church.

Kelly Hays-Thorson

Kelly Hays-Thorson has loved music her whole life. She has played flute, piano and performed in many musicals. She is very happy that she gets to sing with the praise band because it is the highlight of her week. She teaches in a 3rd, 4th, 5th grade classroom across the lake in California. Yes, she is a "boat person!" She thanks God for the talent He has given her.

Eddie Jackura

Bert Leffler

My wife and I are snowbirds from Nebraska  and have been coming to Lake Havasu City since 2010.  I play bass in a country band at home but have really enjoyed playing contemporary Christian music with the Praise Band here.  It is such a joy and blessing to be a part of such a talented and dedicated group.

Anthony Torres

A disciple of Christ Jesus serving The Kingdom of Heaven (In the name of The Father, The Son, Christ Jesus and The Holy Spirit).
Worship Musician and Singer with a desire to minister the Gospel and save souls.

Heather Barton

I am Heather Annette Barton. I have been with Mount Olive for almost two years.

A mother of two grown children, with two grandkids. I have been living in Arizona for almost 10 years, and was born in California. Praising and singing around the campfire for as long as I can remember, singings with praise bands for just five years now.

I am thankful for where the Lord has brought me, grateful for the love and mercy he has shown me.

Truly looking forward to all I can do for Him with all that is yet to come.
